Well, according to Catholics at least ...

A student has smuggled a Eucharist wafer out of mass and is now receiving death threads!

Quote
“We don’t know 100% what Mr. Cooks motivation was,” said Susan Fani a spokesperson with the local Catholic diocese. “However, if anything were to qualify as a hate crime, to us this seems like this might be it.”

And is calling it a 'hate crime' not a bit overblown? Killing a Jew, a homosexual or a black person would be a hate crime. But 'kidnapping' a Eucharist wafer? Come on! That's an insult to all real victims of hatecrimes.

Even comparing it to a kidnapping in the first place is somewhat silly:

Quote
It is hurtful," said Father Migeul Gonzalez with the Diocese. "Imagine if they kidnapped somebody and you make a plea for that individual to please return that loved one to the family." Gonzalez said the Diocese is willing to meet with Cook and help him understand the importance of the Eucharist in hopes of him returning it. The Diocese is dispatching a nun to UCF's campus to oversee the next mass, protect the Eucharist and in hopes Cook will return it.

It's a WAFER, people! And if Jesus didn't agree with getting 'kidnapped' like this, couldn't he have done something against it? Aren't religious people aware what kind of image it gives of them to react like this?

No Catholics on these boards?

No comment, elluminati? Do you agree that this constitutes a 'hate crime' and a 'kidnapping'?
