We are discussing the question of expanding the number of Nuclear Power plants in the US.

I am interested in knowing if anyone here DOES NOT think we should build more Nukes,

We have developed safe technology for both the plants and the disposal of Nuclear Waste and these concerns should not influence your vote

I can't say yes or no for sure without understanding some of the security issues better, but I lean towards yes.

What secutiry issues??

If you mean terrorism, that isn't a factor because of our security forces and the fact that nuclear plants don't explode.

If you mean disposal, that is something that we have spent billions to implement and absolutely the new disposal facilities will be much much more secure (safe) than the on site storage we now have.

If still not convinced, let me know your concerns and I will try to address them.

I lean towards using nuclear power, as I said.  I think you are making some good points in favor of nuclear power, yes.

100% of BC'ers approve of Nuclear Power, but that Is only 5 respondents.

Here is another area where the dims are out of touch with the needs and interests of the American people.

Energy is an important campaign issue and yet Obama and the Dem congress opposes this important source of polution free power.  I wonder why?

France now produces 80% of its electricity from Nukes.  I wonder if Obama learned anything.

I'm a Democrat and in recent elections I've voted consistently Democrat.  It is my view that there are several Democrats in various positions, who are able to consider these complexities, they don't get 100% approval from various lobby groups, they are capable of thinking a bit independently.  I just generally haven't liked the Republican offerings in my state, and on the presidential thing I've been voting against Bush.

Re: Obama, if he wins, I hope he listens to some good advice.  But then I'd have concerns about McCain listening to bad advice, too.

On topic do you want Obama to continue to ignore Nuclear Power and/or campaign agaist it?  Or should we do Gore's "wind farm" scheme??

Or do you support McCain in his bid to dramatically increase the number of Nuclear Plants and perhaps even surpass France's 80% figure??  This would have a positive effect on the economy in the short term (investment, employment, etc) and long term benefits of reducing hydrocarbons in the production of electricity.

This is an easy call in my opinion, and tht is to develop Nuclear power as fast as possible.  The responders seem to agree.

Why do you hold back??

I don't mind wind-power, but I dislike 'hot air'...

If Obama ignores nuclear power, perhaps others will take it up, I hope he doesn't campaign against it.

I hope people listen to that and that something like that happens, whoever is elected.

Nuclear power development is dead if a dim gets elected.

I may in fact vote for McCain, and if so, that would be one of the sorts of reasons.

This is certainly turning out to be a winner for the Republicans.

BC'ers are 100% behind Nuclear power.

The media is beginning to regurgitate the US history of nuclear power,  items that has held up development for 30 years.

France has 80% of its electricity from nukes.

Is America as intelligent as France, or is there something wrong here in the USA??

I think that we here are the intelligent ones and unless Obamamites wise up they will lose out in November.

Lets get some votes

The Frenc like nuclear energy

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/reaction/readings/french.html
Quote
France, unlike in America, nuclear energy is accepted, even popular. Everybody I spoke to in Civaux loves the fact their region was chosen. The nuclear plant has brought jobs and prosperity to the area. Nobody I spoke to, nobody, expressed any fear. From the village school teacher, Rene Barc, to the patron of the Cafe de Sport bar, Valerie Turbeau, any traces of doubt they might have had have faded as they have come to know plant workers, visited the reactor site and thought about the benefits of being part of France's nuclear energy effort.
France's decision to launch a large nuclear program dates back to 1973 and the events in the Middle East that they refer to as the "oil shock." The quadrupling of the price of oil by OPEC nations was indeed a shock for France because at that time most of its electricity came from oil burning plants. France had and still has very few natural energy resources. It has no oil, no gas and her coal resources are very poor and virtually exhausted.

Unlike France we dillied and dallied and have wasted 30 years.  Had congress acted, we would not have the oil crisis we have today.
There is still a problem with nuclear waste, in the US and France.  France was wise enough to go ahead with Nuclear plants as McCain now proposes. The learning curve on nuclear waste has advanced and we can use the French expeience to help us resolve the issue.
