Who chooses the Pope? The humans (cardinals) or the Holy Spirit?

According to official doctrine, the latter by means of the former. That raises some troubling questions historically, though...

Exactly. That was why I was wondering. So the HS is dependent on the cardinals wanting to execute its wishes/suggestions?

Exactly. That was why I was wondering. So the HS is dependent on the cardinals wanting to execute its wishes/suggestions? I think it has something to do with the theory of sacramentality, that God chooses to manifest himself through human actions, signs, and symbols -- IOW, God confers sanctifying grace through the pouring of water in baptism, God forgives and absolves sins through the form of confession and penance, Jesus is made present in the Eucharist in the form of sharing bread and wine, etc. Now, all of this is well and good in the modern world after the first Vatican council that defined Papal infallibility and so forth. Now, in theory, this infallibility then has always been the case even though it was not formally defined until that council. That makes rationalizing Benedict IX and Alexander VI -- two of my favorite popes -- kind of interesting.

I'm not sure what you are trying to debate, would you like to tell us?
I'm trying to figure out who chooses the Popes: the HS or the Cardinals?

Then why not just ask it on the Learn about Board?
Because it would probably quickly evolve into a discussion or debate?

I like the Borgia Popes the best. The coolest art and the most devious political machinations--and the best poisons. I don't know where HS wandered off to during those elections--but it sure did result in a lot of interesting "machiavellian" stuff. I wonder--do the Borgia Popes win the contest for the most bastard children and most clerical appointments to their "nephews"-IE sons?

Things got really fun in the 14th century Great Schism when there were two Popes, one in Rome and one in Avignon.

Corrupt and decadent on the one side, interested in, and financing, high art on the other!

There is nothing worthy of response. You still haven't made it clear what you are "critiquing."
Dald, if you are going to post on this website, you probably won't get too far unless you bring substance. One liners will get you ignored. Nobody here is interested in being baited by nonintellectual posters, who just want to stir emotions.
So either articulate a well thought out critique or you might as well go back to BNet.
Thanks a lot for calling me dumb. That must really mean that you're intelligent then. Good to know. As for the topic itself: I'm asking a straight-forward question. That believers should be able to answer. And then maybe I would have follow-up question, etc. That's how a debate goes, no? So, why are you evading the question?

Dald--I'm brave but I've been there and done that. So you're a Catholic? Why doesn't it say so under your avatar ... ? It'd be easier for everyone And so you only answer some questions? The ones you like?

Dald says-- "So you're a Catholic? Why doesn't it say so under your avatar ... ? It'd be easier for everyone" I only talk about it when it's germane. Otherwise it's nobody's business IMo. Dald says "And so you only answer some questions? The ones you like?" A-yup. (that's a way of saying yes common to people who live in certain parts of the northeastern US)

You've got indeed a somewhat unorthodox view of your Catholicism then

I do not know who this person is of whom you speak--but yes I am a Cradle Catholic.
We are a happy and tranquil lot which distinguishes us from the more doctrinaire converts and ultras who post here and there.

I'm sorry. I thought acumen mentioned on some thread that you were whirlinggal on Bnet? I must have confused something then.

There is no debate since nobody is really answering the question
