Just a comment. I thnk it's worth noting that the Democrats dodged a bullet with John Edwards. can you imagine what disarray they would be in now if Edwards were theur nominee?

Wow...

Yes, they dodged a bullet, but they are not immune from its collateral fragments.

What do you think that collateral damage could be?

Edwards was an important figure to both campaigns.  They were groveling for his endorsement, and now they want nothing to do with it.

This story will exploit the marital problems of certain key figures in the democrat party, and it will be just one more scandalous thought buried somewhere in the back of voters minds when they go to the polls.

Why is it that when these things happen in the Democratic camp, it is a big deal, but when they happen in the Republican camp, they are glossed over?

I really think that we need to focus less on the personal lives of the candidates, etc, and how they do the job instead.

I doubt if any of our founding fathers would have gotten elected in today's climate.

The Edwards affair has been know for a long time and reported in the scandal press.  The Media ignored it and paid the price.  Had it been publicized during the primaries,  Edwards would have lost to Hillary and Hillary Clinton would be the candidate.  As it is turning out, she would be a much more formadable opponent than Obama.

It is time to let the Edwards try to work out their marriage.  God Bless them in these efforts.

They are a big deal in both camps.  The difference with Edwards is how high he is on the food chain.

In this particular case, I agree.  He's not running for office.

A couple of weeks later, now that the campaign is in full swing, not much is being said about Edwards. Perhaps it was just a blip and perhaps rightly so. But I shudder to think what would have happened if he had gotten the nomination and THEN the scandal broke.

We Democrats seem to go out of our way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Perhaps we're too independent. Pointing Democrats in one direction is sorta like herding cats.
