Ah... Today was a strange day for class. We were getting ready for finals and basically had study session in class today. The whole class was encouraged to ask the professors all sorts of questions to gain different perspectives on the Bible, and Christian Life. Any way, one girl raised her hand and asked about demonic opression/possession. She stated that her friend had believed since she was little that she was opressed by demonic powers, and that no one she had went to had helped her any. "As a Christian, what would you recommend this friend do?"

How do you deal with people who are demonically opressed or possessed?
How do you council them afterwards?

I would talk to them, explain Christianity as I practice it and pray for her.  If that didn't work,  I would ask her to see a clergyperson in the Church that she respects most.

None that I know would fail to help her.

A variant on the question: what do you do if YOU think someone in your church is possessed/obsessed, but they are unsure or simply disagree with you?

Er..

If someone I knew believed that he or she was being possessed or oppressed by demons, I would recommend he or she get psychiatric help immediately.

If their delusion was severe enough that they posed a threat to themselves or others, I would do what I could to have them committed to an inpatient facility.

Right,

I would treat the symptoms both medically and spiritually.

That would be my approach too.
