On the web is OK,  but what about uploading from my computer?

I'm not sure that's something we would want to have from a site/bandwidth perspective, but let me check into some options...

Of course, you can add attachments under the "Additional Options" section... I have attached an image - maybe that is adequate?

Hmm...  I'm not sure the software has the ability to do that (and I didn't write the software myself, so it's not so easy to make large scale changes)... I can look into it.

I think we are a small enough group that we don't need subgroups.

If we want private discussions, we can email each other.

I think you're right... for the moment... but we don't plan to stay so small for long.  Wink

I don't think we're going to offer the same sort of exclusionary groups that the other site offers, but we can provide child boards that individual users can moderate. I set one up at the bottom of the General Category to see how it plays out... if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.  Grin

This format is getting better every day.

I like the new "links" page.  It could be the first place I go to daily to get to the news I want to read.

but this is to recommend a new topic under GENERAL

and that is HUMOR

Not partisan stuff, but sage humor that reminds us not to take each other to seriously.

such as

It'd be nice if the text box interface would be more 'what you see is what you get' instead of simply having tags around the words, etc.

Good point.

Good point.

For me personally it's really a crucial one.

Yeah. Working with quotes has to become easier. It's not very clear. But apparently they're working on it Smiley

Just a quick note.

While I am all for improving our websites usability, let's not forget that what makes this site great and will continue to make it grow is the intellectual content.  Belief Corner was established to create an excellent forum for exchanging ideas and not for the best "interface" award, Beliefnet can keep that title if it's true.

Personally I am not too concerned with comparing our forum to the complexities of BeliefNet's "interface" or "quoting" capabilities, the conversation over there is extremely lacking depth and a real exchange of intellectual ideas (most of the time.)  If people want to come here and post I am hoping that their first concern is contributing something new and exciting to the conversation, regardless of the topic not necessarily to see who has the best user gadgets.

Thanks for checking us out, and don't tell all your friends, just the interesting ones.  Grin

Okay, as far as the text box interface, there is nothing we can do about that now.  To my knowledge, there are no upgrades available to achieve what you're looking for.

Concerning the partial quotes, all you need to do is highlight a selected passage before clicking the reply button on the bottom of the thread page.  When the text box shows up, paste the comment, highlight it again, then click the quote button.  It's fairly simple.

Very few forum software packages offer a WYSIWYG interface, and those that do tend to be slow and cumbersome.

I'll keep my eye out for any feature upgrades that will allow us to provide some of the requests made here, but I'm afraid that I don't think we will be able to provide for all of them...

But a good interface facilitates conversation and a good textbox makes it easier to convey what one really means. And I'm sorry but the quoting in this textbox here is not clear and obvious at all. There's always some room of improvement Wink

As for the claim that Bnet's threads are mostly extremely lacking depth is nonsense. There are exceptions of course as always. I'm curious to see the depths of the discussion here ...

Ok. Oh, and I noticed another thing: Are multiple quotes possible? Meaning that if one poster has made three separate small posts and you want to quote the 3 of them in your reply?

Yes... there are a couple of ways to do it.

When you are replying to a post, you can see several of the more recent posts below the reply. Each of those has an "Insert Quote" link in the upper-right corner. That will do it.

Or, you can copy and paste and use [ quote ] before the text, and [ /quote ] after it (without the spaces) to designate it as a quote.

What happened to the profile that appeared above the reply and topic.

This was very useful because it allows me to reply to those topics I posted in and especially those that I started where I feel the obligation to stay with them to the end.

I appreciate the info on "quote"  but it would be easier to use the quote box that appears under the font icon above.  (It pays to complain because I just found the quote Icon).

The profile area has not been removed... although you may have hidden it. Look for an icon that looks like a + sign on the right side by where the profile used to be...
