Thanks for the response.

My new mouse is eating away at my computer.

It works and really does make my life easier.

When I start a topic, I faithfully follow up all responses.

I do this by checking replies and responding the every one.

Sometimes as in a recent example a contributor wants to change the subject or continues to inject "inappropriate"  posts and won't go away.

I tried to ignore the poster with a "bump" a few times.

SUPERMAN locked the topic on me.  That is an affront to my concern about a topic and I wish here were some remedy other than locking the topic. And the initiator of the topic should have some say in how the topic is administered.

Lee,

After a subject has been exhausted and nothing substantial is no longer being added, there is no reason to continue a thread, especially if it merely becomes a clash of egos needling each other at the expense of the good name of Beliefcorner.  I wouldn't want new people seeing a discourse of immaturity as their first experience at Beliefcorner.  We all get a little immature sometimes, but you should recognize that what was going on between you and WW was not good for the Website.  If you are so interested in continuing that type of immature behavior then you should private message her.

The issue was good for the website as well as America.

The issue was that it was outrageous to call the US  "Occupiers".  During the discussion the US media abandoned that term and only WW was left to discuss it.

Additionally,  I turned the conversation to what we really accomplished in Iraq and that is Liberation.
That is such good news, that there is recognition by the leaders in Iraq of this accomplishment and I am supported in that view in the Wall Street Jouranal today.

In my view it is good for all Americans to understand that the lives that we have sacrificed have gone to liberating another country  from a despot.

Let us  see how the new topic turns out.

That's great, but the old thread had for the most part turned into nonsense.  I suggest that if your goal is to get WW to admit that she is wrong, then get a new goal.

That was never my goal of course, only to stop the babbeling.

And I think I have found a way.  I just repeat the topic and ignore her.

I've considered it... if I can find the right program, maybe we'll add it at some point.  Grin

I've never played online, but I'm sure I could get used to it.

As far as the foo - I'd make fried "Papa"s out of him!

I hope you find the right program, Thor.  Thanks.

Not online you won't.  I played chess with El online, and he was using his palm pilot to map out moves against me.

Whatever, I did that one time for fun and I admitted it.

You would not have even known if I would not have told you.

I'm too honest.

I like the mechanics of the site, and I generally like the way a lot of the discussions are going.

The only things I have on my wish list are that the featured political articles included thoughtful moderate or liberal pieces, thoughtful pieces by Democrats or Supporters of Democrats or Democratic positions, and I think these changes would improve the site.  I don't think it would have to compromise the goals and aims of the site, as I think it would add to more serious discussion.  The challenge in finding such liberal or Democratic materials, would be, as it has been with conservative feature articles and links, to find things that lend to a thoughtful discussion of ideas rather than degenerating into attacks on people/the person.  Unfortunately, I'm not political enough, I don't keep up enough, to know where to go for such materials with those qualities (from any particular political viewpoint or party).  Re: the tenor of thought: I don't see how linking to articles from the John Birch society on the main page helps the forum as they are really 'out there' and have a history of being conspiratorial or reactionary, from what I understand.

I agree with you, SW... but we don't have members submitting such thoughtful non-conservative articles. And we don't skim articles from other sites, so our "talent pool" has to submit things for us to post.

The invitation is open... no guarantees that we'll publish, but we guarantee that we'll consider submissions.

As for the feeds, Superman wanted to present a wide variety of feeds representing a pretty complete spectrum of religious and political views. More than just the John Birch society could be described as being "out there," in multiple directions.

I'd like to see codes of conduct for moderators published, and a strict prohibition upon banning any member UNLESS at least 2 other moderators agree.  No one host should have this kind of unchecked power; if they do, it's liable to abuse.

Warmest regards-

Moderators don't wield that sort of power, only administrators.  We are working to establish a checks and balances system, but it's easier said than done.

It would probably also be good to clearly state what kind of discussions you want here. If criticism at the roots is not desired then that limits your audience a lot ... I guess it mostly comes to discussion interfaith details then?
